Earlier on in the summer, Simon Belshaw of Exeter Library contacted me to ask if i would be able to help organise a CodeClub. Code Club is a a nationwide network of free volunteer-led after-school coding clubs for children. I’m a big advocate of promoting STEM subjects, so how could I say no!
Our goal is to provide a regular after-school class for children (and adults!) introducing them to not only the Code Club topics of programming, but also other STEM related activities such as electronics with RaspberryPi, Robotics with Lego Mindstorms and so on. We’re still experimenting with how best to run the sessions (in terms of frequency, organisation and planning with local schools, etc), so stay tuned to my twitter account for updates!
Our first session was at the end of September, and we had a class full of girls from a local school (thanks Kate!):
Huge thanks to my colleague Jay Bush, fellow volunteer Dave Parsons, and organiser Simon Belshaw.
